Crop steering
Deliberately pushing a crop toward vegetative or generative growth by manipulating irrigation, EC, temperature and climate rather than leaving the plant to set its own balance.
The idea comes out of Dutch greenhouse horticulture, where it was developed for tomatoes and peppers before cannabis growers adopted it. A plant divides its resources between vegetative structures and reproductive ones, and a grower can bias that split.
Vegetative steering uses frequent irrigation, small drybacks, lower EC and a narrow day-night temperature difference. Generative steering uses larger drybacks, higher EC, a wider temperature difference and a later first irrigation.
Steering only works if the measurements underneath it are stable. Any change to the room that alters transpiration, CO2 enrichment among them, moves the substrate curves the strategy is built on, and the program has to be re-baselined rather than assumed.
